Interview – Florian Nicolle

Florian Nicolle is a young designer located in France. I have came across some of his works in DeviantArt and found his illustrations do have an unique style of his own. We are proud to get the chance to interview this amazing artist. Enjoy!

Hi Florian! First I want to thank you for the opportunity of the interview. And as usual, how about telling us more about you?

Hello, Thank you for giving me the opportunity to do this interview. I already have a diploma in Graphic Design, and infact, at a very tender age, at about 15 years old, I wanted to be in Graphic Design, that is why I have decided to move towards the field “arts appliqués” where I began to search my own style thanks to my teacher, specialised in sketch, who has greatly helped me on this, and some of my friends from whom I got inspired.

How did you first get involved with digital art and design?

During my studies in applied arts and Graphic Design.

I saw a series of artworks, such and “Marie” and “Chan”, that has a strong and unique style of yours ? Where does your inspiration come from ?

I copied neither on anyone for the elaboration of my traditional style. The illustrations that I do, are the inheritance of  my apprenticeship that I got as from the age of 15 with the first teacher I mentioned above earlier, and also the lectures of illustration that I got afterwards in my Graphic Design School. But obviously, I like to look at the work of others on various internet sites.

What do you feel are the most important skills for a designer to have/develop?

According to me, what is important is, to develop a personal part in his or her work, something different, by being varied as much as possible.

What are your tools of the trade, both hardware and software?

I do my drawing with either coloured ink, china ink, brush, pen, marker or tria marker. Then I scan my work and I work again the illustration using Photoshop, where I apply textures such as carton or typography…

Do you have any projects going on or coming up?

No, not particularly.

Are there any website(s) that you visit regularly?

Yes of course,
deviantart.com
behance.net
graphic-exchange.com
abduzeedo.com

Alright Florian, thank you very much once again for the interview. As a final word, do you have any tips for upcoming artists and designers ?

If i would have any tips… it would be to follow themselves.
